Where are we going?!
We’re going on a whisky trip to Scotland! Land of men in checkered skirts, haggis-flavoured crisps and astringent, medicinal drinks with a hint of tar. A country where the weather has a bad reputation – with 89 consecutive days of precipitation, the island of Islay is the proud UK record holder.
In a country where you have to spend that much time sitting indoors, the Scots invented whisky. Almost every island has its own distillery. Or, as is the case on wet Islay, nine.
Why would I want to go there?!
Rather than flying with a limited baggage allowance, tot hier en verder takes the ferry from IJmuiden and drives to Scotland. Tour leader DD is your designated driver and stays sober. You will be amazed how many bottles fit into the cargo space of his minibus.
In Scotland, we visit small distilleries and stubborn people who love to tell you stories about their whisky. There’s also plenty of time to get a breath of fresh, salty air (do not forget your raincoat) on islands with stone circles, rugged mountains and empty beaches (you might as well leave your swimsuit at home).
Hope you like boating, because we have nine ferry crossings to look forward to.
