Raki without Bob

Where are we going?!

You are going on a raki trip to Albania! Albania has no rules, an awesome flag and thousands of bunkers covering its landscape like a filthy layer of eczema. An obvious holiday destination, right? Think again! But Albania missing out on the Top 25 of most visited countries in Europe is puzzling, to say the least. At the same time, it means you don’t have to share the mountains, the Ionian beaches or the ancient cities with thousands of tourists.

Why would I want to go there?!

Raki! Plums are distilled everywhere in Albania to create some proper moonshine. You can also use apricots, pears, mulberries, figs, or whatever – the Albanians distil everything they can get their hands on. Visiting local shepherds and rural villages, you can taste some homemade goodies in this country without overly strict food legislation. In addition to raki, prepare to be offered coffee and cigarettes. A tip if you don’t care for those: Albanians shake their heads when they mean ‘yes’, while a nod means ‘no’. Good luck.
